Coral Reef Fact: December 26, 2010-Christmas tree worms

Reef Fact: Christmas tree worms are found in a variety of colors and measure 2-3 cm in diameter, dozens of these worms will typically adorn massive coral heads in local waters.

Coral Reef Fact: December 23, 2010-Goliath grouper

Reef Fact:
Goliath grouper produce a distinctly audible rumbling sound generated by the muscular contraction of the swim bladder. This sound travels great distances underwater and is used to locate other grouper and as a territorial warning.

Coral Reef Fact: December 15, 2010-Queen conch

Queen conch (Strombus gigas) blood contains hemocyanin, a copper containing molecule. When the hemocyanin interacts with oxygen during the process of respiration, it turns blue making queen conch “bluebloods.” Please support Reef Relief’s work to improve and protect our coral reefs.
