These two images visually illustrate the difference in appearance between coral bleaching (above) and coral disease (below). Snails grazing on coral leave a scar that looks exactly the same as the diseased coral. The best way to determine between snail grazing and coral disease is to catch the snails in action .

It is very significant that young corals such as this are dying.
The future of the living elkhorn coral on this reef will be in jeopardy if this continues.
