- Island Roots Festival Reception held Wed. March 14, 2007
- The public was invited to attend a reception from 7--9 pm on Wednesday March 14th at the Pier House Caribbean Spa--Cayman A. The event, hosted by the Key West Maritime Historical Society and Reef Relief, celebrated the sister city relationship between New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay in the Abaco, Bahamas, and Key West.
"Join us as we welcome two special visitors to Key West--Mrs. Karen McIntosh, chair of this year's Island Roots Festival, and Mrs. Kendy Anderson of Bahamas Tourism," noted Reef Relief's DeeVon Quirolo. "They are visiting Key West to tell us about this year's sister city celebration May 3-6th in New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas."
Reef Relief's Bahamas Programs are headquartered at the Captain Roland Roberts House Environmental Center in Green Turtle and include a Coral Photomonitoring Survey and reef mooring buoy program. Click here to view images of corals from this area of the Bahamas.
Key West's Donald Lowe began the evening with a talk on the historic ties between Key West and New Plymouth, followed by presentations by Mrs. McIntosh on this year's festival theme involving pirates, and Mrs. Anderson on travel and lodging plans. Key West's Schooner Wolf, led by Captain Finbar, sailed over for the festivities.
