To celebrate the achievements of Reef Relief, we cordially invite you to our annual meeting on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Margaritaville Beach House Key West (2001 South Roosevelt Blvd). Doors will open at 5:00 PM for cocktail hour, followed by a brief presentation recapping Reef Relief’s effort during the year 2024. Dr. Brian Lapointe will be in attendance to provide a presentation on water quality. He will offer an update on the unprecedented toxic dinoflagellate blooms and “spinning fish” observed in the lower keys. These benthic algal blooms coincided with unusually warm temperatures and high seawater nitrogen concentrations and nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratios.
Ian Wilson-Navarro, a visual storyteller, will follow, highlighting his time documenting Dry Tortugas National Park and his newly released book, “Dry Tortugas: Stronghold of Nature.” Ian will be discussing how the park has evolved—both for better and for worse—while highlighting the challenges and incredible biodiversity it still holds. A cash bar and free hors d’oeuvres will be available throughout the evening, along with an opportunity to renew your membership and purchase Reef Relief merchandise, where you can receive 20% off for being a member.
